How Spark Driver offers work (and how to get more)
Spark has no fixed schedules: you work when offers come in. Understanding how they're handed out helps you get more and choose better. This is what Spark's official help explains, in plain words.
Spark Now and your zone
- To get offers, turn on Spark Now on the app's home screen.
- You get offers from your zone, which is usually the area around one or more stores.
- Hours: offers usually come in between 6:00 AM and 10:30 PM.
- You can only have one zone at a time. You can change it after at least 3 deliveries: tap "CHANGE ZONE" on the home screen, enter a ZIP code, pick the zone and tap "SAVE".
Careful: if you change zones during an incentive (a bonus for a certain number of deliveries), you may lose it.
The two ways offers arrive
| "Just for you" (round robin) | "First come, first serve" | |
|---|---|---|
| Who gets it | Only you | Every available driver in the zone |
| Time to decide | Has a timer | No timer: it lasts until someone accepts it |
| What to do | Look it over calmly, but before time runs out | If it works for you, accept fast: someone else may grab it |
Offer types
- Delivery: you pick up an order that's ready and take it to the customer. Includes grocery, walmart.com orders and Walmart GoLocal.
- Shopping: you shop inside Walmart or Sam's Club and then deliver. It pays more, but takes longer.
- Customer return: you pick up something the customer is returning and take it to Walmart.
Also:
- Pick up inside or outside: with in-store you go into the store; with curbside you pick up in the outside area. Read the notes to know where to go.
- One or several: a single offer is one customer and one address. A batched offer is two or more customers in the same trip, always from the same store, with several stops.
- Tags: Express, Alcohol, Pharmacy, Heavy item, Bulky item, Apartment and Restaurant. Some have extra requirements; for example, with alcohol you have to check the customer's ID.
On a batched offer, add up all the stops and all the miles before accepting, including the drive back to your zone. A high payout can end up low per mile if the houses are far apart.
How Spark decides who gets each offer
According to Spark's help, priority depends mostly on two things:
- How close you are to the store.
- Your customer rating.
In some zones, your trip preferences and Rewards eligibility also count. Offers aren't guaranteed: they depend on how many orders there are, how many drivers are online and what kind of offers are available at the time.
Pay and tips
- The pay you see is an estimate based on what's known when the offer is shown.
- The tip is separate and can change before it's confirmed. A customer can lower it after delivery.
- You can decline any offer you want. Spark says there's no minimum you have to accept.
How to get more offers
- Wait near the store. Distance is one of the biggest factors. Park nearby, not at home far from the zone.
- Protect your rating: a clear photo of every delivery, follow the instructions and message the customer if something's missing.
- Go out during the busiest hours. See an estimate for your ZIP in Busy hours.
- Make sure notifications aren't blocked by your phone's battery saver: it's a common reason for not getting offers.
- Try another zone with more stores if yours barely gets offers (after your first 3 deliveries).
- Don't use apps that accept offers for you. Spark bans them and you can be deactivated. Read what to do if you're deactivated.
Before you accept: is it worth it?
Take a screenshot of the offer and upload it to the calculator: it reads the pay, miles and time, and tells you what you really keep after gas and wear.
